Collaboration and Rollout: from Smart Trash Cans to LED Streetlights

The City of Pittsburgh has obtained more than 1,200 smart trash cans as part of their effort to improve efficiency and cut expenses. “This implementation could save the city $128,000 per month, adding up to an estimated $1.54 million annually, according to a case study by waste company Victor Stanley”. The City also recently released an RFP to choose a vendor to overt 35,000 high pressure sodium (HPS) streetlights to LED, which will provide long-term energy saving and reduce energy savings and light pollution.
